Talk to gay family members or friends. You'll get a different view.

And since when can anyone predict what Trump will do? Republicans in power certainly will push him.

The quickest way for Trump to guarantee a Democratic Senate in 2018 is to go after same sex marriage. He won't do it.

Once Biden floated it as a trial balloon in 2012, Obama saw it was a winner to get the young people to vote even as they still couldn't find decent paying jobs.

Trump may even find some economic support from same-sex couples. Many of them are highly educated and don't have the expense of children -- dare I say gay male couples are the world's most affluent demographic. Perhaps they'd like a tax break, too.

Politicians don't waste time or political capital on obvious failures.

This is really silly. There will be no push from Congressional Republicans for this.

    It's Constitutionally protected now.

To continue to suggest such an effort means you are dumb, lying, or blinded by emotion.

One aspect of Trump I'm curious about.

He isn't some hick from Springfield, Missouri who never sees black people or gay people. Trump spends pretty much every night in Manhattan -- possibly the world's most energetic and diverse city.

I still can't imagine that, unless he is some Donald Sterling character, that he would be that closed-minded and bigoted and still be operating with some level of success in NYC.

Don't we keep hearing that Trump isn't a politician?

It is certainly possible that he doesn't care at all about gay marriage and he only said anything negative about it to gain the support of Republican voters, but to say he won't do something because it isn't something a politician would do seems kinda silly.

By what mechanism would Trump "go after" gay marriage?

I don't think he will do it. I'm just questioning this idea of predicting his actions as if he is a normal politician. Hell, that he isn't a normal politician seems to be a big part of why he won.

So ... Let's not hold GWB responsible for 9/11, AND let's not give Obama credit for killing Osama?

    Hmmm okay

I wasn't really asking in response to your post, just more generally to the board at large. Stipulating arguendo that he actually wants to go after gay marriage ... what could he do? I don't see any practical avenue to pursue that.

I don't think he is. Pence sure as shootin is, though.

All he has to do is put his favorite activist judges on the Supreme Court. Gay marriage will be overturned in weeks. There will be people lined up to put a case in front of it.
