I live here. It's a densely populated, diverse city with a large and activist liberal population. It's no surprise at all that this escalated as quickly and spontaneously as it did.

 

The protesters began organizing as soon as the rally was announced, so I wouldn't call it spontaneous.

Holding it UIC provided a ripe environment for recruiting protesters.

 

Yes, lots of funny-colored people in the neighborhood.

 

UIC itself has a very diverse student body, including many immigrants and first generation Americans.

 

I'm sure it was organized on some level. But I don't think it was some Rubio- or Cruz-driven thing.

As you and I both know, this city would protest "Bambi."

There's a big activist community here. Between the occupy types and the #BlackLivesMatter folks, they can organize a protest. Then you put the rally on a college campus, with a young and diverse student body, and you're going to get plenty of protesters.

Rubio just walked back his pledge to support Trump. He said he doesn't know, and "it's getting harder every day."
