But, again, the thing is she didn't need to address the issue at all. What struck me about the line was how entirely UNNECESSARY it was. She was not asked how she'd replace the coal industry, indeed she was not asked about coal or energy issues at all.

Instead, the question was about what she'd do economically for "poor whites"--to which she began her answer by declaring that she'd put coal workers and the coal industry out of business. WTF?? Hard to imagine a dumber way to commence an answer that question. She could've made her point about creating green jobs without declaring her intent to destroy the coal industry, but apparently just felt this need to unnecessarily torpedo herself anyways.

 

She was projecting more spontaneity and warmth!

Which her campaign was sure to tell the press to be on the lookout for.

 

Did anyone see the response from her communications person about her comment that she didn't see Bernie Sanders around when she was trying to reform health care in 1993?

As everyone knows by now, there was video of her praising Sanders, who was standing right behind her.

Acknowledge the error and move on?

As a reminder, coal use is down 25 percent since 2005 and the industry has been dying for a very long time at this point. In the fall, HRC unveiled a plan
that called for "$30 billion towards infrastructure improvements, mine land remediation, training and education programs, and incentives for business investment in Appalachia, the Illinois Basin, and the Western coal areas."
