Complex treaties involving a half-dozen countries aren't the win-lose propositions Trump seems to think they are. Especially if the person trying to negotiate them has been spewing half-baked, dick-swinging nonsense for months beforehand.

So the current argument is that Donald Trump is some sort of foreign policy savant?

    Just catching up.

If Obama would have included that provision, Trump and the other braying jackasses on the right would have said those planes would be used to drop nuclear bombs on our allies.

Hell of a thing to say, ok you can have your own money back - but only if you spend it with us.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed to see YF using the "He'll make DEALS and they'll be GREAT!!!" shtick.

Reminds me of the guy who in 2012 bragged incessantly on about 100 occasions how "I ended the war in Iraq." After Iraq became a shit-show and the home of the rise of ISIS, when asked in 2014, he then told everyone that the troops being removed from Iraq had nothing to do with him and was pre-ordained before he was even elected.

No, it shows that we can't do it all or control it all by ourselves. In real world diplomacy, everybody has to give a little and get something in return. If you add a multiple country coalition to that, nobody gets to stand up and say "Yeah, but I want all the gravy". Do that and the deal comes apart. Those sanctions were fraying, we needed to get a deal done.

I'm not thinking of many times where we went it alone in the Middle East that worked out real well. Trump still thinks we can take Syria's oil, and it ain't gonna happen.

    "Became a shitshow."

Sure, those six years before 2009 was just a cakewalk. The flowers were pretty and the candy was delicious.

You mean because George Bush signed a Status of Forces Agreement that established that U.S. combat forces would withdraw from Iraqi cities by June 30, 2009, and all U.S. combat forces will be completely out of Iraq by December 31, 2011?

But it's like Mark Twain said about the weather in San Francisco: If you don't like it, wait five minutes.

It's better than saying, " here's your money back. Too bad you can't use it to buy planes from us, but don't worry, France will be happy to sell you planes."

I'm not arguing that he's a brilliant foreign policy expert.

I'm arguing that Andrea Mitchell and others continue to miss Trump's appeal.

They think he stepped in it.

Fact is, his simple argument has appeal. Americans don't want to fight foreign wars on behalf of other nations who won't join the fight, or pay for their own defense.

Americans aren't concerned with Japan or South Korea having nukes. Not after being told that it would be fine for Iran to have them.

Americans don't want to do deals with Iran that benefit France.

It all plays into why Trump is doing well, and the media still doesn't get it.
