Can we get this back on topic before you get it locked?

 

It is on topic. Trump made statements about abortion today.

And I've done nothing to make it locked. All I do is raise points. Certain other people cannot control their emotions and choose to make insults or assumptions.

 

You've said you're not inclined to accommodate her desire for an abortion.

 

It strayed from the Trump quote to this shit show long ago. And by, "you," I meant all of you. Not you specifically.

 

You said that she wasn't emotionally detached late in pregnancy. You didn't say that emotional detachment meant that she wanted an abortion.

She could decide late in her pregnancy not to keep the fetus and put it up for adoption. Or, she could be going through antepartum depression. Nearly 30 percent of pregnant women do, at some point.

Trump said women who get abortions should face a punishment. The media freak out ensued, with the assumption baked into every headline that this was simply OUTRAGEOUS! A couple of us are trying to figure out what is so OUTRAGEOUS! about it.

 

Baron's been fine on this part of the thread. If he'd just admit that there are only two straightforward positions -- the absolutely-no-exceptions-pro-life one and the absolutely-no-limits pro-choice one -- he'd be even better.

 

As long as we're only allowed ONE! politics thread, tangents are going to happen. And who really gives a fuck? This place would be boring if we "stuck to the topic."

 

We had a tangent with a board member on this thread in which the member was very kind to share a sad personal story from their life. Tangents happen on any thread.

 

But when they turn into a name-calling shit show ...

 

It's getting harder and harder to figure out whether Trump is just the most clueless knob to ever walk the earth, or whether he's pulling the most subtle and masterful troll in political history.

Personally I go with 90% clueless knob, 10% crafty masterful troll.

No doubt Trump truly is a world-class asshole, bigot and racist, and a lifetime of having your nuts lovingly licked by sycophants every morning of your silver-spoon life has to have imbued him with an attitude of infallibility but at some level he has to understand what morons he and his supporters sound like.

 

He just didn't understand the extent to which you have to think through your positions in order to handle campaign scrutiny.
