Terrific was the word I chose. She was a strong advocate whose views aligned with mine about 98 percent of the time. She was a tireless advocate for NYC and the first responders in the aftermath of 9-11. She was particularly good when it came to forging strong bipartisan relationships in areas where she could work with Republicans, with people including Newt Gingrich and Lindsay Graham. The first Irag vote was unfortunate. After that, she was a leading voice against the administration's handling of the war. She also voted against Roberts and Alito. She was a terrific senator. I'd vote for her to represent my state again in a heartbeat.

So on Meet the Press this morning, they showed clips of Obama's performance, and then Chuck Todd said something to the effect of "when I saw Boehner and Obama yucking it up on that tape, I thought, where was that when the country needed it." Uh, Chuck, maybe the two men disagreed a lot when they were on the job because they were fighting over their principles. And if there weren't such disagreements, there wouldn't be any politics for you to cover. We'd also be a hive species.
The whole notion that Washington should be a mutual lovefest is one of the oddest peculiarities of Beltway thought.
