As I understand (I could be wrong), Alwaki is the only US citizen who was specifically targeted. The others were with targeted terrorists when drones fired missiles at them.

The legal opinion that was used to justify the targeting of Alwaki essentially laid this out, but I'd be in favor of further clarifying legislation that says, in effect, if you leave the United States and join with an enemy that is at war with the US, you forfeit your rights as a citizen.

 

I totally believe that those others were "inadvertently" killed.

 

Hard cases make bad law. And setting a precedent that citizens can be executed without arrest and trial is Obama's biggest moral failure.

 

Well, I suppose we could just bring all of the Gitmo inmates over to the U.S. and give them fair trials, right?

 

Or just let them go.
