    Yes, Riptide-logic notwithstanding. Won without the South in '68 and slaughtered McGovern. Set the stage for party realignment and the growth of the GOP in the South.

    Thirded. I hear the call every cycle for a "true conservative," yet none emerge. And the ones that do are unelectable.

    Lots of folks, including many libs/Dems here, have knocked Trump's "protectionist" proposals.

    So do the same folks support an end to the Jones Act -- a leftover bit of protectionism?

    Riptide, cran, and the rest of the Algonquin Round Table believe the GOP is beyond repair, and that conservatives (don't know why I'm lumped into that camp) are in denial about it.
