Discussion in 'Journalism Jobs' started by Riddick, Aug 3, 2007.

  1. Could we move the dick measuring to PM and, oh I don't know, talk about the fucking job opening? Thanks.

The panhandlers and horrendous disregard for morality happen for the most part in the Quarter. I guarantee that's where you saw these sorts of people.
You didn't see them in Lakeview neighborhood or off Veterans in Metarie, or even in Old Metarie period.
The criminals? I bet you never ran into one before.
You likely got your info from the newspaper or television. I bet you've never been held up in N.O.
    Not once.
3 to 5 times a year, for 16 years? Why the hell'd you keep going back if it was so damn bad?
Let me guess, your editor sent you to cover games there and you had to keep going back over and over and over.
Listen, if you really don't like the parts of the city you're used to seeing, try somewhere's (sic) else.
Try the Garden District. Snoop around the area where Tulane is situated.
Or, if it's easy enough for you, simply stay the hell away.

One thing's for sure. It won't be Huck that gets the job.

Haven't heard anything other than there was a potential candidate who is no longer a candidate. And it's not me. I'm gainfully employed.

The way he talks so bad about other cities, I could swear this guy was from Dallas.

  6. Just not a fan of New Orleans, that's all. And yes, in Metarie, I have seen my fair share of incidents, too. Lakefront was beautiful in spots before Katrina. I do wish New Orleans well, and for that matter, I believe it will eventually come back and be a much nicer city than it was. I just don't have enough time left in my lifetime to ever wanna spend more than a week or so there and that's only when work takes me there. Some good people, some great food ... not so good otherwise.

Now San Diego ... I'd pay to live there. That's one place I could easily spend the rest of my life. Chicago, too. Both are great cities. Dallas has its moments.

I don't know about New Orleans now, but it sure sounds like Baton Rouge wishes a lot of former Nawlinese would call their stay to the northwest done.

i woulda thought theyd have tied this opening up with a nice little bow weeks ago, hurricane-ravaged city or not. this is still a D-1 beat at a major, well-respected paper and i cant believe it didnt draw any candidates that didnt need to be thought that hard about.

  9. Maybe the drawback is the city and its problems. Ever thought of that Einstein? I suspect the top notch writers aren't banging down the door for this job.

I actually know two well-respected guys who are interested, but haven't heard anything more than getting the ap in the mail. Whatever the reasons for the delay, lack of interest from quality people isn't one.

  11. I've got a homey who moved to Nola recently. Dude is really happy with the place. Hearing his scouting reports has changed my vision of post-Katrina Nola. Still kinda crime-ish, but basically the same place.

Also, I think this would be a really good job.

Einstein huh? Maybe I think most dedicated writers who are passionate about moving up in this business and would love a Division I beat don't eat shit for breakfast and spew it back up on this board like you do. Everyone knows you have an axe to grind with Nola, your opinion has reached the absolute limit of times it can be repeated. This beat has surely drawn interest from go-getters all over the place who aren't sitting on a pole with a closed mind.

Besides, if you hate this place so much, why do you continue to waste so much time in this thread, Sally?
