Papers really like to move slow on things huh?

No need to rush. The paper is doing fine as it is now. Eventually, there will be a hire made because Tulane is important.

  5. Agreed with you until the final three words.

But I have no doubt this is attracting very qualified candidates... Easy beat, good paper, good company, very good $$$.

Ted Lewis, among others, is covering Tulane right now and doing a damn fine job. I've noticed when I read the paper each morning there's usually a good mix of bylines on the Tulane stories.

Tulane is pretty important at the Times-Pic. They're a solid fourth over there, behind the Saints, LSU and the Hornets. The Green Wave get nice play in the sports section.

  8. FYI, the only reason I have kept posting is because people keep calling me out and not only that they keep cursing me. I have yet to curse anyone or attack them personally, much less call them an "F-ing Moron" as I have been called. I don't find that very productive. However, I do find a discussion about New Orleans and it's problems quite interesting and productive. By this thread alone, I have learned a few things that I didn't know even though I was there not long ago.

I keep reading to learn. I post because I don't like being cursed, and the only way to respond is to defend my position. Again, good people, good food, not much good otherwise. Wouldn't take the job if they begged me to take it.

And also, if they are holding off until the spring, that means the paper has some issues in my book. Why would such an important beat not find a qualified writer and put him in the middle of the war zone immediately? Seems to me there could be issues in the sports department if they are going to wait 6-8 months to make a hire. That's just me though. I suppose the move could have nothing to do with that but it's a red flag in my book. Just one more reason to question a job like this one.

Because they're waiting until spring to make this hire, anyone know if they're still accepting apps? Or have I missed the bus?

Don't know where you got that from? They have finalists selected and should be making a hire within the next week or so.

Then my source was wrong. I stand corrected. Thanks for the information. Hopefully, they'll select the right candidate. It's a good gig in a rebuilding town.

From what I understand, they have some great candidates.
