    Was that a real question?

1.) Did you apply? If yes, go to No. 2. If not, go to No. 5.

2.) Did you get a form? If yes, go to No. 3. If no, go to No. 4.

3.) Maybe they did send them to everyone.

4.) Obviously they did not send them to everyone.

5.) Why in the hell do you care then?

At least he didn't ask if he should send his resume... ;D

    Using IJAG's system:
1.) Did you apply? YES If yes, go to No. 2. If not, go to No. 5.

2.) Did you get a form? NO (at least not yet) If yes, go to No. 3. If no, go to No. 4.

4.) Obviously they did not send them to everyone. Guess I'm out of the running.

Give it another week or so before you start worrying. Some letters went out (from HR, not from sports) telling people to apply in person in the lobby. Obviously, that's not possible for everybody, and the sports editor knows that. Just a mix-up. More letters are apparently on the way. If you don't get one of those, then you might either resubmit your stuff or decide you didn't make the cut.

Sorry if this bursts anyone's bubble, but being told to fill out an application in person has been the paper's way of ensuring that it won't be sued in today's litigious society while essentially stiff-arming those it doesn't consider a legitimate candidate.

Historically, New Orleans has had a high unemployment rate. Since the Times-Picayune is about the largest company in the city, it's seemingly on speed dial for those looking to fill out the requisite number of job applications in order to keep the unemployment checks coming. People with no intention of ever working there will call the paper and ask HR to mail out an application, hoping they'll never have to leave the comfort of home. Telling them to come down to the paper to fill one out has helped to cut postage costs, as well as the aggravation for HR to keep track of the paperwork.

Glad I didn't hop into my '87 Corolla before seeing this. I'd gladly make the drive if it meant I'd really get a foot in the door. Good paper, good people. Met Jim Klein at an LSU game and he's solid. So heck, what's a 800-mile road trip?

Perhaps you mean Jim Kleinpeter... He's a really good guy, too.

My bad. Kleinpeter, it is. I shouldn't have stumbled. I've met Josh Peter, who used to work there, too. Both are good writers and reporters.

Anyone have any guesses what the pay scale is for this job?

Roughly 60k, I'd say. Maybe less if they hire someone without a ton of experience.

That number would seem high to me. I know writers who have covered pro sports or LSU there and they didn't make $60K. Some did, but not all...

I'm sure it all depends on who they decide to hire...

I would guess low 50s, but that's just a guess...
