If the T-P pays $60,000 for this job, I'm demanding a raise.

I'd say both those guesses are way high.

If I pulled in 60,000 to cover any Division I team, I'd be satisfied for life.

Seriously, if I overstated the salary, it wasn't by much.

I have a sibling who writes for the T-P. It's still a great paper, with good writers, good photographers and good design. Those who say this could be a "stepping stone" for someone who's energetic are off-base a bit.
This could be a good gig for someone to stay in long-term, too.
More and more, we see jobs analyzed as stepping stones. No wonder there is no loyalty or rewards from the various management types at these shops.
Whoever gets this job will be very happy they took it. They will travel a bit with their work and be surrounded by quality co-workers and, for the most part, quality neighbors.
Those who make comments on this board about quality of life on New Orleans or the city's "comebackedness" most likely haven't been there since the storm and are simply reading a TIME or NEWSWEEK or National Geographic article.
Par for the course on this board (and no, I'm not talking about the ones of you who HAVE been there)

How far does $60k go in New Orleans these days? Has the cost of living gone up or down since Katrina.
If you live there -- and I don't mean living near the Quarter or any of the tourist areas -- how expensive or inexpensive is it? Are there many nice suburban areas?

    Ugh, here we go again...

  12. I've been there MANY times. The city has improved but it hasn't come close to returning to pre-Katrina and I doubt it ever will. You can love on Nawlins all you want, but I'll pass. They need state troopers to police the streets because the city can't find law enforcement that will take the job.

And $60K won't go far at all in the Big Easy. If you haven't noticed real estate is in the crapper there and it will be for a couple more decades if not 30 or 40 years. Plenty of better places to live in my book than the dump of a hole on earth.
