Get that number up to about 1/1,000, and maybe we'll talk.

Damn straight that people should have as many appeals as needed to get it right. If we're going to have the death penalty, we better fucking get it right a lot more than 99/100.

1/1000 is still too many. Imagine if the 1 were a relative of yours.

As already noted, bad news out of Little Rock today.
I was with one of her best friends yesterday, and she said it appeared Anne was recovering, but had not yet regained consciousness.
The 10 o'clock news was hard to watch. The anchor struggled to get through it.
Just very, very sad.

I hate the "I hope he gets what's coming to him!" reaction. Hate it.

It doesn't bring her back. It doesn't honor her memory. It's not justice, it's revenge.

It's tough to come to terms with this, but sometimes there's nothing that can happen to give something like this a happy or fulfilling ending. I think sometimes our reaction is vengeance because we feel like that is a way for us to impose justice on a sometimes chaotic and unjust universe.

Cases like this are exactly why we have to decide what we do with our justice system and stick to it. We can't decide to go for justice in some cases and revenge in others.
