Refresh me on my geography, but I think Pressly lived in the Heights, which is an old (and very white) part of town. That's what makes this even more shocking.

Seems the Little Rock rumor mill is churning with speculation that a local sports figure is somehow involved in this case. That's despite authorities stopping just a skoosh short of saying "No, he's not involved you morons."

Umm, no. The mugshot that was distributed with the WANTED poster did not have a photo from his later booking.

The rumor that Inky is talking about is that Jermain Taylor's wife hired a hitman to kill Anne Pressly because Pressly was pregnant with Taylor's child and or she found that her husband was having an affair and decided to have Pressly killed.

To be perfectly honest, the Little Rock Police Department has done a shit job of managing and releasing information in a timely manner. Such as its lead spokesman being on vacation at the time and not being called back to handle the media. Instead a less experienced backup was responsible for the national media who descended. It was pathetic to watch. The local paper has done an even worse job, so the local blog for an alt-weekly in town has been the main source of information. They were the ones who broke that it was DNA evidence that caught the guy.
In the vacumn of offical information, rumors have spilled in and have taken off a life of their own.
Much like was Pressly raped? The rumor was that she had been. The cops neither confirmed nor denied.
It wasn't until Presslys' parents on the Today Show and told Matt Lauer that she had been. Because that rumor was true, now people are beginning to believe every other rumor floating down.
I don't blame them.
I think the mayor should fire the police chief over it, and also fire all the paramedics and firemen who won't shut up about the scene.
At least eight nurses have been canned at the hospital where she was treated for accessing her medical file without authorization.

Kudos to 20/20.
They came in and kicked the shit out of the locals.
Of course the best station in the market is Pressly's station and it can be understood why they didn't pursue this investigation with vigor, even though I suspect some of the locals helped out.
Local daily doesn't really care, which is that paper being its normal weird ass self, and one of the douchey mcdouches on the radio did a long piece questioning the ethics of Pressly's stations by sending out reporters who were her co-workers and friends to cover the story.
