Just read about this and knew it would end up here. Not to defend the guy, and we all likely know what he meant, but the tweet itself isn't racist. There are white players in the NBA. People took the leap to assume he meant the black players in the league. Either way, dumb, dumb and more dumb. Bet he gets re-elected, though.

 

I'm pretty comfortable in saying I know exactly what he meant by that, and it's racist as hell.

 

Not racist on the level of Justine Sacco, but I can see where it would rustle a few feathers. It'll be interesting to see the backtracking his camp does in the next few days.

 

As Stephen A Smith said today, the NBA is a black league so the tweet is racist. Why it's a black league is open to debate, but the legislator certainly had a racial animus when he posted it.

I thought I heard him say on ESPN this morning that the NBA is an 80% black league.
