You're argument might have merit if the vast majority of people over the age of 18 weren't already carrying this type of identification card.

But, by all means, feel free to go back to pretending the government is going to take over like it's 1984.

Having one and being compelled to produce one are two different things.

Feel free to pretend that having a license in your possession when you drive a car is identical to a identity card that must be displayed at any time under threat of arrest.

OK, I've given what I believe to be a real solution to this problem. Your turn.

Apart from a National ID Card, how do you think we can solve this without offending people's sense of "freedom" and/or without racially profiling?

Strolling around with nothing in our pockets and no care in the world used to be a right of ours in this country.

I think you're pretty silly to walk around without identification. Not for law-enforcement purposes, though. I'd hate to be incapacitated in an accident and no one can figure out who I am.

Hmm, where exactly does it say that?

There's a difference -- a small one to Fox News aficionados -- between being asked for ID and being hauled off to jail. Are you really that clueless about what your Constitution says and why two hundred and forty years of legislative and common law and judicial revision brought us to the conclusions it draws?

Even better than a patch would be a tattoo. More permanent.

Nice way to avoid my question completely.

And Fox News aficionado? You're aware that I'm one of the most liberal people on this board right?

What kind of liberal traffics in a pretty tired old right-wing cliche like the one you raised?

You're parroting Fox-like sound bites without thinking about the implications of those sound bites.

    I'll ask again.

Apart from a National ID Card, how do you think we can solve this without offending people's sense of "freedom" and/or without racially profiling?
