    Extreme threat? Please.

The rent-a-cops were incompetent. Simple as that.

I really hope he sues them and the university.

Guy may have been a dick but last time I checked it's no reason to assault anyone.

Out of curiosity, what would you have him sue for? He has no injuries. He was charged with disrupting a public event, which he clearly did, as well as resisting arrest. So what grounds does he have for a suit?

It's illegal to disrupt a public event? Wow, there are a lot of sports fans out there who I am going to call the cops on in the future, hopefully a bunch of Red Sox fans will get tasered as a result.

Yes, it is, at least in Florida. If those Red Sox fans show up and aggressively disrupt a public speaking engagement and refuse to leave when asked, I imagine they will be taken into custody as well.

Oh lord, it seems that THE Andrew Meyer writes sports columns, including a running 07 NBA Draft Diary that he acknowledges was inspired by his "favorite writer" Bill Simmons.

Does this new information add to the justification for tasering him? If not that, how about the fact that he refers to himself as THE Andrew Meyer? I may now have to rethink my position.

How is it decided someone is "disrupting" a public event? What are the qualifications for disruption?

The "disrupting a public event" is bullshit.

The Keystone Cops disrupted the event.

    How about "assault"?

    How about "excessive force".

The Meyer should hire this guy:

He could have said his favorite writer was Scoop.

They had to turn this guy's mic off because of what he was doing, but he's an angel and it's the cops who disrupted the event. Okaaaaayyyy.

To sue, you have to have grounds to do so. You're accusing them of excessive force because of one taser shot, yet the guy has no injuries. Wouldn't "excessive force" perhaps cause some sort of injury?

This is not a big deal it is just the combination of extraneous factors that is propelling it. John kerry being there. The setting a college campus where dissent is generally thought to be given a larger leeway. A young white student that represents large number of peoples kids getting tased in a place where parents would like to consider their kids safe. The effectiveness of the cameraman.

The kid was resisting and police have been given large latitude in the use of "non-lethal" tasers. If you have a problem with that focus on the procedures that dictate the use of the taser. There have been many worse uses of the taser this one just happened at a time and place that can actually generate some interest.

No one is going to lose their job and no one is getting free tuition as a result of this.
