And by the way, Tony, I could make the argument that the cops led this guy into the resisting-arrest charge. It's not hard to do. Happens all the time.

I'm not comparing the actual situations, because of course they aren't the same. I'm just saying it's easy to assert someone's "not a threat" after you already know they aren't a threat.

Have at it. The video tape won't support you.

  4. And my point was you threw out the V.T. incident out of nowhere. I don't know why you made a connection between the two.
So I took your point that nobody thought Cho was dangerous to the extreme -- we don't know who is dangerous, so let's treat everyone as if they are a mass murderer. The best way to do that is just to kill them all before they kill anyone else.
If it's OK for the cops in question to use excessive force, it should be OK for all cops to use extremely excessive force, right?

    That's only your opinion.

When you have him face down on the ground he's no longer a threat if you know what the fuck you're doing.

And Tony, your point about forcing the arm is actually well taken. But I still don't see why one cop didn't just kneel on his upper body while the other applied the cuffs.

  7. I saw zero reason to believe he was a threat from that tape. Did you?

The video tape is fact, not opinion. And the guy's statements since won't exactly help your cause, either.

  9. You're a sadist. I'm not joking.

Disagree. This guy was filibustering this event. The people in the audience came to hear the words of John Kerry, not to watch someone who apparently has the reputation of being a "prankster" act like a slap. Kinda' like when I pay my money to see a football game, I go expecting to see a football game, no some drunken buffoon run on the field. The guy was resisting arrest and disturbing the peace. And if he's so damn innocent why is it we got to see seven - SEVEN - minutes of his chicanery before the taser was applied? Get out of your car during a routine traffic stop and act like this for seven minutes and I guarandamntee the cops are using your head as a battering ram during the eighth minute.

First of all, they didn't use excessive force. If they had, the kid would be hurt. He's not. No one's saying treat everyone like a mass murderer, but you can't act in a way that indicates you may be a threat and then be surprised when people treat you as such. Whether you actually were or not is irrelevant. If you don't want cops to be physical with you, don't resist them and they won't.

No, but I am a realist. And if everyone is so fucking worried about the punk getting tasered, they should be aware of at least one of the other possibilities. Now, it appears, you're also arguing that they not only shouldn't have tasered him, but they also should have showed great finesse in alternative methods of subduing him.

Fortunately, I'm pretty sure you have no role in law enforcement.

Unfortunately, if you do indeed work in journalism and worked in news, I'm sure you would do your very best in every story to make the cops look bad and the crooks look like saints. I just hope that if one day you need a cop's help, you first tell him/her how much you despise their work before you let them assist you.
