Shouldn't that read "Wonder what would happen if a Universit of Ottawa student resisted arrest?"

We're sometimes confusing what happened here. The Andrew Meyer was tasered (unecessarily, IMO) for resisting arrest and failing to comply with the requests of police officers. He was not tasered for opposing the war, for being anti-John Kerry or anti-George Bush or even for being a drama queen.

What next - are you going to tell us they should have tasered Rosa Parks and got her ass off the bus?

I don't think they had tasers then. They preferred fire hoses and German Shepherd and both would make a mess of the bus' interior.

    I'd have let her be.

What you're saying, DD, is the equivalent of saying it's not OK for a cop to shoot a gun-wielding suspect after said suspect repeatedly refuses to drop the weapon.
This dude was continuing to fight against being cuffed. He was warned what the consequences of continued struggle would be. He fought, anyway.
At what point is it legit for the police to follow through on threats designed to get suspects to comply with their orders?

  7. But they didn't have to taser the guy. They could have cuffed him without it.
If the cops said, "Sir, you will take off all your clothes or will be tasered," would it then have been OK for them to follow through with that threat?
Both stripping the guy and tasering him were equally gratuitous in that situation. They had him controlled on the floor with a swarm of cops on top of him, and then they shocked him. It did nothing to contribute to their already total control. It seemed like a punishment more than a way to control to me, and that's plain wrong.

Let's sum up the popular opinon here:

    1. The kid is a douchebag, and he'll probably be embarassed by his actions if he ever starts acting like an adult someday.

    2. He deserved to get kicked out of the place because he was being an obnoxious nuisance.

    3. He started to make an even worse scene. Him screaming "Help! Help!" is proof that this was all an act.

    4. Once he kept resisting the route to the door, he was arrested for disorderly conduct.

    5. Six cops were unable to handcuff a 180-pound douchebag, which is an embarassment to the entire law enforment profession.

    6. A taser was brought out in a situation where it shouldn't have been, considering No. 5.

    7. Kid is tasered, blowing this whole story out of proportion. Cops, who are there to restore order, caused even more chaos.

    8. Kid is still a douchebag even after the electric voltage is rushed through him.
