Uhhmm, AP, how many Beckham stories are you going to shove down our throats?

Oh fucking Christ, here we go again. The Spice Girls were bigger than the Beatles. Oh Kay.

 

I'm 23, and I'd bet most people my age know who Posh Spice is. Until now we hadn't thought about her since she needed to know what we want, what we really, really, want, but we know who she is.

 

WOW.

Ahem. . . .

1. A "niche sport" in a country with a population of 250 million-plus still has a good amount of support. And soccer has many fans and supporters here who feel MLS is not worth their time. But they know who David Beckham is.

2. Man U didn't drop Beckham; Real pried Beckham away from Man U because he was still plenty good enough to play at that level; they added him to a team that had no shortage of stars. He even now is effective for the England national team, which again has no lack of talent. His return to the lineup this year spurred Real to the Spanish League title. Real asked the Galaxy last month to negotiate returning Beckham, and was turned down.

3. Can't argue the Tiffany part. But their concert tour in 1998 was pretty well-attended; parents took their little girls, who apparently interpreted "girl power" as just being smart and stuff. And people know who Posh Spice is, even moreso with this hype and the "band's" reunion.

 

Forgive me but what does posh spice have to do with soccer?
