I really don’t get what Vlad’s endgame is now. Even if he wins, what has he won? Does he think NATO/everyone else is just going to unfreeze everything and return to normal?

I think he expected the West to simply give him what he wanted without much resistance, as has happened in the past.

Now to save face he has to escalate.

Europe and the UN and NATO and the US need to create opportunities for him to exit peacefully without being humiliated.

But without giving him whatever it is he came for.

So ramp things up enough to sue for peace? But if he ramps things up, it makes it less likely things return to status quo ante. It’s a doozy of a pickle of a shitstorm.

I’m going to try and put myself in Putin’s shoes.

Eighty years ago Germany brought a horrible, awful war into my country. We pretty much lost a generation of fucking men to those bastards. Those same Germans are in NATO and have buddied up with a shit ton of people. Our buffer between them and us is getting smaller and smaller each decade, and if we lose the Ukraine to NATO, it’s even smaller. Russia looks weak because we are losing so many allies to the west. I’m the strong leader, and I have to stop this. I thought there was a chance that clown Trump would break NATO apart, and that didn’t happen, so I have to forcefully stake the Ukraine since I’m out of options.

Now I am figuring out how fucking hard it is to take over a motivated country. We have critical Russian theory here, so I never learned in my history classes how fucking it is to do this. America keeps making this mistake.

Now, what do I do? Can I carve out enough of the Ukraine to create a new country? It looks like I won’t be able to take the entire country.

Fuck, all my rich friends are not as rich anymore. They are fucking pissed.

I’m not so worried about an American assassin as I am one of my countrymen killing me.

    Not "the" Ukraine.

    Just "Ukraine."

    Thanks.
