Can't wait to hear how ol' Tim here has been cancelled for merely exercising his god-given First Amendment right to express his opinion and thus anyone criticizing him is literally Hitler.

This is not a case of someone "going rogue", either. Speaking from experience, this kind of rhetoric does not get released on state media unless people in prominent government positions are sure it will fly with the top of the pyramid. No way is this just one guy's opinion.

I'm sure NATO will step in to issue a sternly worded press release.

I have said this multiple times on here about countries with autocrat dictators. Yes, there are elections. Who knows to what extent they are rigged in any given one of those elections? It's easy to rig it, because they control everything, including the electoral process.

They point to those elections as the evidence that they are democratic countries.

But Viktor Orban controles the media. He controls the schools. He has nationalized large swaths of the economy. He controls every regional political office through a system of patronage. He has passed laws that make it illegal to speak ill of him.

Democracy doesn't exist in a place that has no rule of law.

I visited Serbia and found it to be a very interesting place. Serbs have a very different world view than most Americans.

In Belgrade there is a massive museum dedicated to Tito and the country he created. They show films from the 50's of happy citizens bringing gifts to Tito. I hired a driver for a city tour and the guy, who would have been born in the mid 90's, drove by a huge, abandoned factory and colplained about the collapse of communism. He attributed the current lack of jobs to the switch to capitalism. I was told by him and a couple of other Serbians that udner Tito the country operated under a system of worker ownership of enterprises and not the highly centralized Soviet model.

Another tour guide explained the foreign policy of Serbia to me as "We love Russians. I have been to 29 European countries and that was the first place outside of Moscow I heard that statement. But Serbia's traditional ally was Russia and there is still resentment of the NATO bombing in the late 1990's. The tour guides made sure to point it out to me.

It's almost cognitive dissonance-inducing to see the bunch who played upon the frailties in Western politics and media so skillfully flail so hard when it comes to building narratives of their own. As ever, it's easier to destroy than to create.

What makes you say that? Ukraine is not a member.

NATO has a choice -- has had a choice the whole time -- and it is exercising it.

Inches the US closer to full engagement with the Russians since the Cuban Missile Crisis, IMO...

...it's a small step from "he's a war criminal" committing atrocities to releasing the hounds.
