Russia: Those dead bodies in the street weren’t there when we left town.

I hate that I think this way, but seeing Russian troops pull back from areas around Kyiv gives me a very sick feeling.

Putin’s a desperate man who would use nuclear weapons.

Same here. I think there's an old military dictum that nobody pulls back when they have numerical superiority unless they're about to call in the artillery.
So one of three things is probably happening:
    1) The Russians really are withdrawing and shifting their offensive to the eastern regions, to pacify those areas and solidify those gains.
    2) The Ukrainians have beaten them up so badly that they're retreating to regroup and keep their armies from being surrounded and destroyed.
or 3) The withdrawal is a feint and they're clearing out so they can unleash the mother of all artillery barrages.

It could be some combination of the three. But any scenario that includes Option 3 is obviously troublesome. It's a little like seeing the water recede from the beach right before a tsunami comes in.

We’ve already seen, whatever the barrage, the Russians don’t have the wherewithal to control and occupy Ukraine.
