    CNN's Ben Wedeman used a super specific phrase -- "medieval siege" -- regarding Mariupol. It's believed 22,000 are dead there since it began.

    Medieval siege.

    Medieval.

    CNN should really match all future visuals with that word, medieval. Don't hold back.

    Thank you for using the proper spellage for "medieval." In terms of warfare, it's completely appropriate. What isn't appropriate is the complete disregard for civilian life. The Union allowed women and children to escape Vicksburg.

    Apropos of nothing, my favorite parts of this thread and the whole reporting of this conflict is the perspective from experienced military voices not for the machinery or the blood and guts but because as someone who did not serve, that's the most enlightening. How did they get past the Moskva's radar? Why did the impact probably contribute to its sinking? That sort of thing.
