Even if Putin gets Rasputined, he has backed everyone into a corner. There is no way for Mother Russia to save face.
They can't have another Afghanistan and still be major power.
If they succeed in even taking a couple of square miles, the only thing the international community can do is blacklist them, and that requires pretty much everyone in the G20 (or whatever it is) to go along.
