KYIV, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Ukraine's biggest mobile network operator was hit on Tuesday by what appeared to be the largest cyberattack of the war with Russia so far, knocking out mobile and internet services for millions and the air raid alert system in parts of Kyiv region.

Kyivstar has 24.3 million mobile subscribers - more than half of Ukraine's population - as well as over 1.1 million home internet subscribers.

Its CEO Oleksandr Komarov said the attack was "a result of" the war with Russia, although he did not say which Russian body he believed to be responsible, and that the company's IT infrastructure had been "partially destroyed".

I've wondered since early days why the hell this hasn't happened yet. You would think that's one of the first things a combatant would do in battle circa 2022.

Only a matter of time before GQP House members put forth a bill to require American military manufacturers to resupply Russia ASAP.

I'm not saying Congress shouldn't support Ukraine funding, but DoD has a lot of cash floating around. Not $61 billion in spare change, but enough to continue to make a difference by surreptitiously sending goods Ukraine's way. Same for the CIA. I imagine there have to be Plans B, C and D already on the shelf.

The thing is that a lot of that money has been spent in the U.S. It's not like they're sending shipping containers full of hundred dollar bills. Many of the items sent over were in DOD's storage inventory, and you know that they sent the stuff that had been on the shelf longest and was facing expiration dates first. The new production is mostly manufactured here and the suppliers, workers, and corporations manufacturing them are getting paid and sending those dollars into the economy to circulate.

All of which sets aside our role in preserving freedom and democracy in the world. I regard arms to Ukraine in much the same way I do the Lend/Lease program that kept the U.K. from falling to Hitler.
