My son is 22. My nephew is 20. If forced to go, they would go instantly. They wouldn’t even have to be forced.

Well, since I wasn’t talking to him originally, your bullshit gotcha doesn’t really apply, does it?

Good for them. Not my concern.

Not really, Nine Toes. I know both of them. I know they haven’t served. I know they don’t have kids. I don’t really give a fuck that there might be some people on this board who served and have kids and might feel differently. If I cared, I wouldn’t have just quoted them.

Did I explain it slowly enough for you?

If my son wants to join the military and comes by the decision honestly, I’ll support him. But I’ll be damned if the decision’s going to be made for him.

You're probably both right, and wrong, about this.

I'm not sure you can say with any authority that the Ukrainians are braver than 98 percent of Americans (although they certainly are stepping up when/how we might aspire to do). We are in completely different circumstances, and generally, people respond, or not, according to the circumstances involved.

You'd be surprised what people can, and will, do when they have to.

But, conversely, the fact that they don't have to doesn't necessarily make them a coward.

And, if you're sane and not power-grabbing, and don't really have any other legitimate cause, either to fight, or to follow, who would actually choose war? It is never a good thing in terms of lives and lifestyles and livelihoods lost. Although I believe there are some things worth dying for, no one should want war. Especially not as a means of proving anybody's collective manhood.

Don't think this is a d_b or fake news.

As for Zelensky, yes, I've been impressed.

In fact, I've been thinking, "Wouldn't it be great if he could run for President here?"

But that could happen. And I completely understand your take on it. We've all already been talking about the person who would be a prime target in our family -- my 20-year-old nephew -- and have been shuddering over the idea.
