So BBC is doing a good job. I tried to get the morning news on CNN and MSNBC and the former was pontificating and the latter was showing other news. BBC is doing good. And they said that thing about Turkey is not true they have not stopped Russian ships at fermenting the Black Sea. The French Navy did stop a Russian warship from going through the English channel

I think young people volunteering service time is a good thing but I do get stuck on the mandatory thing especially with the government involved. I think the Trump years have proven to us that we cannot trust our government to force us to do anything, because we don't know who's going to be running it.

I'm lucky because my kid had to have community service hours for her academic program in high school. It was a lot of hours over 4 years and I personally thought it was overwhelming. But she found her niche and absolutely loved the process. And in fact she has sought out opportunities in college now that help her continue to volunteer in the community. And I think that's the real hope is that we raise children who want to give of themselves to help others.

If you though the "Muh Freedoms" crowd was obnoxious over masks, just wait till you try to force their kids to do a year or two of community service.

I've always thought the idea had a lot of positives, but as Az said, you really need to supply the carrots (free education, etc.) to go along with the required service.

My older brother is not exactly the stereotypical flag-waving military person, but he joined the Navy after college . . . because they paid for a medical school education he couldn't otherwise afford. I'll do X, but you have to give me Y.

Maybe that’s part of the answer.

Kind of similar to when I got to Eagle Scout — I had to do service projects of increasing scope to earn my last three ranks.

Service is service. And it would absolutely be a net gain for American society.

Over the last decade-plus, I’ve spent probably 75 percent of my time in service to others. Military, Cub Scouts, youth sports, school activities, river cleanups, etc.

The place I’ve chosen to raise my family is better off for it. And so am I.

    More Americans need that.

France intercepted a cargo ship not a warship in the English channel

It was the French coast guard equivalent and a Russian freighter hauling cars, not a Russian war ship.

Russian cargo ship SEIZED in English Channel for 'violating EU sanctions'
