I think the only reason the UK athletic department doesn't want to open practice to the public is because they'd have to staff it like a regular season game because the crowd would be so damn large.

    And I'm only half-joking.

They could practice in Rupp and get a nice crowd.

He opened it up to the media in the spring a couple of times going into his first season, but I don't think he did this year.

This is more of a Peevy thing than cal. And Peevy's excuse is BS. There would be more than enough people there to staff a presser the week of the Louisville game. he just blew it off because he wants it to go away and he doesn't want to be bothered with it anymore.

When I was covering the men's basketball team for my college paper there was a player kicked off the team that alleged racism. The SID actually called me and FORBADE me to talk to him. Of course, like a good soldier, I went straight to his dorm, called up to his room and talked to him for 45 minutes...and wrote an extensive Page 1 story about it.

Said SID approached me the next day and asked why i didn't listen, that I was making the school and the athletic department look bad. I responded that I didn't work for the athletic department and, in all actuality, it was not me that looked bad.

Kentucky should be ashamed, and the faculty advisor at the student paper should be on the phone, screaming at the SID.

If I'd been working with you at that college paper ... you wouldn't have been buying beer for a while.

I authorized something similar a time or two, Carlton, when Bigstate U. either booted someone off or ran them off ... When the SID ever-so-thoughtfully found my cell number (likely in his un-returned calls log), I reasoned with him that the athlete wasn't a part of Bigstate U. anymore, and therefore any "rules" they had about media talking to them didn't apply anyway.

    Silence ensued.
