Underappreciated flicks

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Killick, Mar 9, 2008.

  1. Don't forget the gang rape scene. Damn.
Depressing movie. One of those moives I saw, didn't mind and have desire to see again.

Great call on Running Scared and The Long Kiss Goodnight.

    Highlander anyone?

good call on "In the Name of the Father". Day-Lewis carries the film but Pete Postlewaite is its soul. Great work by him.

As for "Tombstone" as best western, I respectfully disagree. Would have agreed until a few months ago when I saw "Open Range". If you haven't scoped it, you gotta. I hadn't enen heard of it until it was mentioned on Denis Leary's "Rescue Me" show. Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall, Annette Benning. Great stuff.

I won't read through five pages of thread as I'm jumping on here late. But I offer:

    * Bad Boys - The one with Sean Penn and Esai Morales, about Chicago street thugs in a juvenile detention center. Damn realistic.

    * Tuff Turf - One hot girl in that flick whose name escapes me. Damn. Just damn.

    * Roadhouse - It's starting to get some love, but it's one I can't turn off. And Kelly Lynch is smoking.

    * Friday - Another flick I can't turn off when I find it on. Check BET. Parts of it are funnier than hell.

    * Baby Boy - Good drama of life in the 'Hood.

    * Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows - If you've never experienced the seedy side of pro wrestling, this film is a must-see. Will make you hate Vince McMahon, HHH and HBK (if you don't already).

Several people have mentioned Roadhouse, but that's a movie that's massively OVERappreciated.

I love it as much as anyone, but come on, it's crap. A zillion movies like it pass unnoticed every year, yet this one has been seen by everyone, multiple times, and continues to be on TV all the damn time almost 20 years later. Its appreciation is highly disproportionate to its quality, but in the opposite direction meant by this thread.

    Shit, you remember that? Unreal.

    I haven't seen it in ... years.

That was back when a made-for-TV movie really meant something special.
    A youngish Jan-Michael Vincent and a never-better Darren McGavin.
    Fine, fine call.

Absolutely. One of my favorites. I wish it would get back into the HBO rotation soon. (Yes, I'm one of those folks that has it on DVD but never puts DVDs in and waits for it to come on the movie channels.)
