    A remake . . . one of the ones where it's debatable as to whether a remake was required/desirable . . .

FB - funny you mention O Brother with regard to Heaven's Gate. T-Bone Burnett was in the roller skating band, as was Huey Lewis and the News keyboardist Sean Hopper on upright bass. I totally missed Mickey Roarke in the movie first time through and I guess Willem Dafoe was in there somewhere as well.

  3. If you figured out what language Isabelle Adjani is supposed to be speaking in that film, you're smarter than me. I think it's some Indo-European dialect of the Fourth Century.

I'd list some of the great pre-Code triple-entendre early-30's shit for the Nexflix freaks, but suspect there's a pretty good chance I'd be talking to myself and/or those that care are already well-aware of some of the better stuff that's out there. If there is curiousity, I'll list a few.

I love this movie. Yes, it was one of the first movies made for HBO. I really need to go take some time online and find a copy of this. I don't know how well it would hold up. I haven't seen it in years. But I loved it when it came out.

Petersen, Madsen and Mulroney were all fantastic in it. If I remember right, Teller's character mostly whispered in his father's ear, probably meant to be an in-joke for those who knew of his non-speaking work with Penn.

Others mentioned that I agree with:
Mr. Holland's Opus (not all of it, but some great scenes)
The Ref (Leary and Spacey. 'nuff said)
Beautiful Girls (between this and The Professional, Natalie Portman's early work is just amazing)
Army of Darkness (the genius that is Bruce Campbell)

Absolutely. Kilmer and Downey Jr. made that movie. Great call.

Do you mean the movie with Jim Carrey? That movie was atrocious.

Again, don't know if it's been mentioned, but I have to throw a vote for

    La Bamba

I thought it was a great movie.

To echo FOTF, "Hope and Glory" was fantastic.

I believe Huggy mentioned another of my favorites -- "Running Scared," which thankfully seems to be on at least one of the Turner stations every week.

One I really enjoyed that got no attention at all is "Fearless," with Jeff Bridges as a guy who walks away from an air disaster and concludes that he's invulnerable.

I'll give a shout-out to Notes on a Scandal. The performance of Judi Dench alone makes it worth seeing.
