Ah. So you extort people who can't afford to pay you for 1/3 of their settlement?

I'll bet you haven't offered to take a 10% contingency. You probably went with the standard rate, right?

Funny too. My dad & brother do mostly insurance defense, but they take some plaintiffs wrk from time to time.

The defense work is steady, but you can his a home run every once in a while when you're on the plaintiff's side.

They had one huge win a couple of years ago, but it was probably close to 10 years in the making.

No, I align my interest with the client's.

The client's interests, in the case YF pointed out, would seem to be having an operating machine on one of the busiest days of the week. I would say their interests were properly aligned and I imagine the client would have more than $700 of receipts from the machine YF worked on.

    I hope so.

I have to warn you, if you don't have a steady income or a good amount of savings, you risk putting yourself in a situation where those interests may divide. A settlement would mean a payday for you, but might not be in the best interests of the client.

I hope you are prepared for this and have the funds to operate so as not to be in such a situation.

Also, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this recent case:

The lawyers will split $15 Million, while the individual claimants may average as little as $100.00 per person.

    Is that fair?

Is it a fair amount for the lawyers? What do you think they're hourly rate ended up being after all was said and done?

I'll bet it was better than $75.00 per hour. Probably better than $600.00 an hour too.
