I went to UK, covered UK when the basketball team was at the top of everything, and I never heard the UK band play shit from The Godfather. I'd have known that.

OK, so who is getting this C-J job?

  2. I've never heard the UK band play anything when any writer walked by. The Bluehearts would chat with some of the Kernel guys though. THey're an entertaining bunch to talk to.
Speaking of that, the UK band needs to incorporate modern music into its selections.

Having an ego the size of Rupp Arena doesn't make you a bad guy. Was just commenting on your comment :)

For what it's worth, I have also heard about the "Godfather" incident. I think it happened once, shortly after Pitino publicly ripped Tipton. I've never asked Jerry about it, but several other longtime writers have told me the story.

  5. Never heard of the Godfather incident, either. Point from here is that Tipton covers UK more thoroughly. My guess is also H-L allows for more space for UK coverage. Most on UK beat, past and present, would give the nod to Tipton and H-L. Good luck to Mike, though. didn't know he was so into NASCAR.

I'm not friends with Tipton, but I don't believe ego is an issue with him at all. He's not just very social.

Kernel guys are cool. Any SE out there should jump at the chance to hire a former Kernelite. Weeeeee.

Tipton's job is very different than the C-J job... Tipton does nothing but basketball, so it's only natural that his coverage is more thorough...

I think it's funny how everyone thinks this is the greatest job that ever existed, and only gods and immortals could ever possibly dream of covering UK sports in Louisville.
It's a good job, yes. But seriously, c'mon.

  9. Agree with you on that, Mizzou. A lot of C-J sensitivity on here, huh.

I second Passy's comments: Kernelites kick some serious ass.

In terms of writing jobs that are posted these days, it's pretty damn good.

I hear the school in Bowling Green has a better paper than the "Kernel."
