That's cold, and yet at the same time not far fetched for the Evil Empire.

Or make them risk life and limb to get into the office to find out they've been fired.

Let the citizen journalists cover it.

There's a rumor that one of the guys in Dallas covering the SB is going to be among the cuts. I doubt even Gannett will stoop that low.

If they whack him before the game, he can live out a lot of NFL writers' fantasy: Scalping a Super Bowl media credential.

If it happens early enough in the week, he probably could get a dynamite severance's worth for it.

If it doesn't happen until Sunday night, well, he gets to see the game for free.

Can someone explain why this corporation is STILL advertising for jobs when crap like this is happening?

They are moving to hub design (and editing models) so they will need people in the hub cities but not the others.

They also are consolidating a lot of their finance, HR and other operations in some places. So 4 papers may lose an HR person but another may add one, for example.

If the last round was any indication, they're keeping this stuff under wraps more than they did in the past.

Yeah, Hopkins has embarrassed them a couple of times by announcing their layoffs.
