Of course Bill Martin was standing by RichRod when the Freep stories came out - it's in his best financial interest to do so, being it the bank or athletic department.

I noticed they didn't bother to check how many non-athletic department university employees have loans or lines of credit with that bank. Ann Arbor's not a big town I find it hard to believe that only 11 UM employees do their banking there.

And is this a story if the loans are thru the university credit union?

Quite clearly, you are missing the point. Bill Martin helped to establish this bank. These athletic department employees report to Bill Martin. A conflict of interest, no?

If Martin is still actively involved in the bank then yeah it probably is.

Can you be a chairman of a bank and not be actively involved?

Martin said he was unaware the employees had accounts, save for Rich Rod.

Which is either a lie or he's completely clueless about a company he runs.

Agreed. I think someone caught him in a lie about Rich Rod. You have to think he would know that Beilein has an account there. Maybe not the recruiting coordinator or the men's swimming coach, but the bigger names, that have these huge lines of credit and mortgages, you'd be a fool to think he didn't know.

Does he still run the bank? Story says he founded it but it didn't say if he was still an owner.

He is Chairman of the Board.

The bank's web site lists Tim Marshall as President and CEO.

This is the lead story on Freep.com right now. Unbelievable.

    http://www.freep.com/article/20091014/SPORTS06/91014069/1318/U-M-s-Rodriguez-backs-off-claim-on-team-s-GPA

Not even a slow news day.

Dow passes 10,000, 43 arrested in the breakup of an international drug ring yesterday, state is in the middle of a budget crisis but the lead story is Rich Rodriguez was mistaken about his team's G.P.A.

The comments on the story are hilarious.
