A DickRod comment from his presser today. Kinda reads like he's saying this year's team sucks.

Asked what it would take for Michigan to reverse its years-long slide against arch-rival Ohio State, Rich Rodriguez said:

"Having a better team. We’ll win more of these games and other games when we have a better team than the team we’re playing."

Notice that Stanford is trying to lock up Jim Harbaugh to a long-term deal.

I think if LSU fans had a vote right now, they'd send Les Miles packing. But it's too much of a buyout on either side for it to happen now.

To me, the bigger question is has Jim Harbaugh and Michigan kissed and made up yet. Because if I'm Michigan, I go all out trying to get him.

If Herbie didn't run his mouth, Les Miles would be 11-0 and heading into Ohio State week with the Big 10 title and the Rose Bowl on the line![/blue]

If you're talking about Rodriguez's off-field discretions being enough to get rid of him, fine. Let's say how that plays out.

But, again, he ain't getting fired for going 5-7 this year. Absolutely no shot. And he shouldn't. The offense is way, way better - 70 yards a game better even if you take out Delaware State. The defense is in the first year under Robinson, who completely changed the system from a 4-3 to a 3-4. They are 15 under the scholarship limit as a whole, and dress about 3/4 freshmen and sophomores. Under those limitations, hiring a coach who just came off three straight 11-win seasons after his team showed substantial improvement in year 2 would be clinically insane.

And bad-mouth the Big East all you want about those 11-win seasons - those years also included three consecutive New Year's Day bowl victories, including an absolute whooping of Oklahoma in the BCS.

Well, I certainly can't speak for anyone else, but I'm talking strictly about his off-the-field problems. It's clearly stated in his contract that he can be fired (and the university is off the hook for his contract) for a major violation or knowingly committing a minor violation.

As a Michigan fan, I'm the first to say there's been drastic improvement. With that said, I thought they'd go 7-5 this year, so I still feel like they've underachieved. They should have beaten Purdue and should have beaten Illinois. That gets them to 7-4 going into tOSU.

I'm not one of those fanbois who want the coach fired after every loss. I think they need to give him at least four years, probably five years. Give him a chance to live up to his word (he says he doesn't have the players to run his system yet). If, after four years they're still losing 38-36 games, or blowing 24-10 halftime leads, then by all means it's time to move on to someone else.

    Five years of that moran?
One more tops. His off-field screw-ups cost him a fourth season.

I didn't think he was the right choice when he was hired and I still don't. I'm wearing an Ohio State shirt to a party on Saturday.

OK, cool. If we're talking merely off-the-field reasons, then that's a reasonable argument depending on how this plays out. On another thread, someone was taking the hard-line, "Hey, 8-16 at Michigan is 8-16 at Michigan. No excuses. Win or get fired."

I think the combination of the off-field issues and losing might be enough, though I think it is more likely he stays at least another year.
