So what kind of penalties are we talking about here?

Haven't had a chance to read the story yet.

The NCAA doesn't have a moral leg to stand out when it comes to the stuff about players getting under the table money and cars and stuff like that. The NCAA makes money hand over fist and it looks bad for them to punish a player for drinking a free soda when their executives stay in luxury hotels.

With rules such as too many practices, or too much time in the weight room, the NCAA can at least have the appearance of "Caring for their student-athletes". Never mind that they had to be dragged kicking and screaming for decades to come up with some sort of reform so that the athletes could have some sort of time to, you know, study (either books or women).

Plus, the NCAA wants to cover their asses in case an athlete dies because his coach decided to make him run sprints for three hours in 90-degree heat.

Running in the 90-degree heat shouldn't be a problem for U-M. DickRod has his choice of TWO football field houses. Seriously.

In other words, lack of institutional control. That's the one that usually inspires the NCAA to bring out the big hammer.

So how serious are these allegations?

In the letter to Rodriguez, the NCAA writes that "all of the allegations charged in the notice of allegations are considered to be potential major violations of NCAA legislation, unless designated as secondary violations." In its response to the NCAA, Michigan has the right to point out why alleged violations should be considered secondary. You can bet Michigan will do so.

Still, gives Michigan an out after this year. They can shit can him after this 5-7 season and not have to pay him dollar one in severance....

One of the local sports anchors kept saying these aren't major violations here. Nothing to be too worried about.

Obviously, the anchor is wrong or didn't read the NCAA release.

I'll let slappy take a stab at which sports anchor it was.

    Were there highlights?

I'll slow it down for you, because I know they didn't teach reading comprehension at any of your alma maters.

Harbaugh won't get hired. While the next coach will have some kind of Michigan ties, it's not going to be the one who trashed Michigan's academic standards under the Bo-Mo-Lloyd chain to puff up his current schools. N-o-t g-o-n-n-a h-a-p-p-e-n.

Slappy - Don't be so sure about that. Turns out that Harbaugh - and The Ann Arbor News - were right about U-M's academic standards.

And, I think U-M fans will be so desperate after another crappy year with probation looming that Dave Brandon will look at any decent coach with ties to the Bo-Mo-Lloyd years, Harbaugh included.

Brandon, who played for Bo, is very, very well aware that the Old Blues are restless. And, it's Brandon's job to fill those luxury boxes that will be open this fall. Way too much is riding on this financially for Brandon not to be decisive and listen to the Old Blues. The entire athletic department, save hockey and men's basketball, is riding the football gravy train.

    Why, yes there were.

God, why couldn't he have stayed in New York?

Perhaps, but you don't air it and you don't turn against the family, so to speak.
Unless Harbaugh backpedals like Boots a circus bear on a unicycle, he ain't coming

Interesting quote in the Detroit News today where former UM corner and current Bengal Morgan Trent basically says, yeah, they cheated

He has, of course, gone from hero to must-be-destroyed amongst the fan boi crowd.
