Nothing plays better than blaming the victims.

Maybe because they're hoping, you know, to actually receive a good education?

Well, we're not the ones who have to judge whether rules are being broken. The NCAA is. And the NCAA is headed to campus and press conferences are being called so I'm guessing they just don't think it's "nothing."

Who says? I wasn't aware that Michigan was any different than most other big time athletic programs when it came to this stuff. Isn't Michigan the school of the Fab 5 and vacated final fours?

The school says. Its alums say. And when you self-appoint yourself as "different," you damned well better adhere to that standard. It's the same reason "Under the Tarnished Dome" was such a runaway best-seller, even though a lot of the revelations were things that were done at any other school (redshirting, etc., etc.). It's the same reason that Indiana was so embarrassed by Kelvin Sampson.

Maybe at Michigan, but not at the NCAA. Michigan, like the other major programs, is a cash cow for the TV networks and bowl game organizers and they don't want to wreck the golden goose.

You know what would be grand? A campus-wide email from the administration, at some point, explaining that the issues are being addressed. No need to go into detail, of course. But two sentences. Crickets for now.

Hell, Waylon, lots of schools SAY they are different, that doesn't mean they are.

For decades, Indiana used to claim it was different too, but then they hired Kelvin Sampson and instantly they became different no more (btw, Mustang's posts remind me a bit of the "c'mon, nothing will come of this, it's just a few extra phone calls" refrain I heard from some IU fans). It's your record that counts, not what you say, and I haven't noticed Michigan being much different than nearly every big time athletic program.

If you're a top 25 academic institution, the administration should understand that that carries certain responsibilities. Either get out of big-time football or get out of big-time academics if you can't do both. But hypocrisy is not an option that I support.

You mean the 11 a.m. press conference that happens every Monday during the season?

Waylon, you know this is a business. Michigan is known for football no matter how many lawyers and doctors they churn out, no matter how many people they send into space.

Yes. And basketball had never been penalized until then.
And football hasn't been penalized either.
