It was obviously personal, and engineered by a bully who doesn't give a flaming shit how he gets his own way.

It was really heartening to hear him talk about the stories he was able to tell. He took such joy from reporting, and introducing us to people. He loved a scoop. And, he really loved the bond he formed with his readers, and the feedback he got from them.

He just went on and on about it the note he posted on Facebook, didn't he?

    Oh, he didn't?

What happened? The travel budget get cut? The fanboi experiences weren't as much fun? You weren't allowed to cover the Masters?

Cry me a river. He made it all about him, and not the readers.

    YF,

You're a little tough on the guy, but Crawford's column about why he left is too vague to justify its existence.

And let me be clear, I have nothing but respect for Tim Sullivan and Jerry Tipton. Have read their work for years. Started reading Sullivan when he was in Cincy during my college days. I also have some close friends in the business who can't say enough good things about Sullivan. And we all know if you are trying to find out anything about Kentucky basketball and you don't start with Jerry you are crazy. But my point really is that newspapers can't afford to have two columnist who are from the same background and generation and see the world exactly the same. That is boring and does little to drive readership. The reason the Kansas City Star was so strong for so long is because they had two columnist in Jason and Poz who were on polar opposite ends of the universe so it made things interesting. Hell I am just spouting off as many of you are, but it would be nice to see Louisville take a chance on some new blood with different perspectives. I'm sure it's just wishful thinking on my part.

    Good grief, YF.

You don't know Crawford, so you don't what the hell you're talking about. Crawford is far from a fanboi. And he's done this for however many years now, so I don't blame him for reflecting on his career the way he did.

    Get a grip.

I'm sorry, do you know him, or have you just read him?

Regardless, I'm not reading anything into this, I'm reading what he wrote.

What made it the best job according to him, was front row seats, private planes, famous people, big events, and a great office.

He didn't say a singe thing about his readers. He didn't talk about the stories he wrote or the people he wrote about.

It was all about the job not being as much fun.

My only beef is that I wouldn't put covering the Reds' 2010 division title in the same paragraph with covering the Masters. And I'm a Reds fan.

I know him. We're not drinking buddies or anything like that, but we know each other. Why do you care so much about what he wrote?

I don't give two shits about what he wrote. Never heard of the guy before this thread.

I'm just responding to what he wrote. He misses the perks of the job.

Hey, so do I. I used to fly for free. Attended the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, World Series, GRAMMY Awards, NBA & MLB All Star Games, etc. for work.

But, I'm not going to bitch about it.

And, I'm not going to feel sorry for this guy. The world has changed.

Folks here are talking about what a loss he is for the paper. THE READERS ARE GOING TO MISS HIM!

Well, he ain't going to miss them. He's going to miss the front row seats and the private planes. That's what mattered to him, not the readers.

He wouldn't miss the readers, YF, because he plans to keep them since he will be writing in the same city, ya dig?

People are going to read him, no matter what. Same goes for Bozich.
