Pete Thamel and Urban are very close.

Kinda leads me to wonder why Pete Thamel was the one trumpeting the UT football hostess story...

Would Florida dare talk to Lane Kilfin about the opening?

@LaneKiffinUT Just got the news about Coach Meyer. The SEC & college football are suffering a huge loss. Our thoughts & prayers are with him & his family.

    Uh huh.

We're gonna sing Rocky Top all night long after we beat Florida next year. It's gonna be a blast. Just so Urban doesn't feel lonely, we'll send the Pride of the Southland band to his front lawn and our hostesses will sing Rocky Top just like Christmas Carolers.

They oughta just cut out all the steps in between and hire Bowling Green's coach right now.

The health reasons could also have to do with the cyst on his brain that was touched on in the SI story. Don't remember the name of it, but it can cause severe headaches when a person is exposed to stress. Which would be all of the time when you're the head coach at Florida.

As far as a replacement, Mullen would be the best choice in terms of offensive continuity.

From a big name standpoint, Bob Stoops is the first guy that comes to mind.

My buddy, one of the biggest Florida fans alive, wants Kyle Whittingham to be the next guy.

Surprised that Gary Patterson isn't getting mentioned here.

He has give a specific health reason. Right?

He has probably told players 1,629 time this season not to quit, and he just quits. There needs to be a reason, and stress ain't it

This did make me think; how does a college coach step down?

1 Coach until they kick you out?
    2 Get fired.
    3. Move onto the NFL?
    4. Announce that you are stepping down in two years? Take that on the recruiting trail.

Really? So a 45-year-old has a cyst that causes severe headaches when under stress, which he almost certainly was every day, he was hospitalized after the SEC championship game, and the NYT report posted earlier said he's been having severe chest pains for two years. If he "quit" because he started to worry all the health problems would catch up to him, I applaud him for the good sense rarely seen among the upper-echelon of modern-day athletics, both coaches and players.

Would you have preferred he stuck it out and possibly destroyed his health at a relatively young age? Or maybe died to show his players what dedication really means?
