They can, but with thousands of lies in the rear-view mirror, the benefit of the doubt simply does not exist anymore.

A coach who says "I have no interest in and have had no contact by XXXXXX" on Monday and then leaves his team to coach at XXXXXX on Wednesday did not change his mind or reconsider. He lied.

Pressure is going to bed at night and not knowing where the money for the mortgage or rent due tomorrow is going to come from.

When did "this" become "SJ cool" for "I agree?"

Thanks. Should show up on my SportsJournalists.com Page-A-Day Calendar this year, then.

My last comment wasn't meant as a knock on the previous poster in any way, shape or form. I've seen "this" hundreds of times recently and was wondering.

We've got plenty of armchair qbs and beneficiaries of 20/20 hindsight around here.
I'm cool with what Urban did, and with what most of these coaches do.
It's a fraternity they are in and most of us can never know the "pressures" or other things they deal with.
Most of us here, for that matter, are well able to pay tomorrow's rent.
Don't put most of us in those shoes. I'm guessing the rent's paid on time by most of us here.
    Carry on.

Horseshit. They're in an entertainment industry. No more, no less. Football coaches are not curing cancer, fighting wars, running nations or Fortune 500 companies, although they would like us to believe they are doing things that important. Pressure? They have as much pressure as they put on themselves. It's all induced.
If you're cool with what Urban did, you've got problems.

About a year after it started being cool elsewhere on the internet.

Folks want their alma maters to go 10-2 minimum every year.
The booster club pressure works both ways.
He announced he was stepping back, then reconsidered.
If you can assess that being cool with that means I've "got problems," well Hondo, you might be the one with problems.
    Or Kreskin-like qualities.
I'm cool with it, Hondo. Deal with it.
