There's not one available job that would be better than Florida. Nor any potential job opening in the future that would be better than Florida. Nor anyone who would outpay Florida. Florida is the hot team in one of the top two state for football recruits. The cupboard is not bare, and will never be bare. The thought that this is some gambit by Meyer, thus making Florida analogous to Bowling Green or Utah, is absurd.

And there's *never* been any inkling he'd like to/be willing to try the NFL, huh?

I'm gonna say he's been banging tons of co-eds, porn stars, Tebow's girls......and his wife caught him.

    Exactly.

"We are nowhere near what we can do here. That's what's driving me right now. Everybody's worried about those other places; nothing's going on."
Source: Bowling Green Sentinel, December 6, 2002

"I was contacted by one, but I'm not interested. I love it here. We have a lot of work to do. That's the bottom line."
Source: Bowling Green Sentinel, December 6, 2002

"With recruits, that's been for two years, even before we won. [They say,] 'that guy's not going to be there very long'; that's silly ... The future is fantastic here ... I'm proud to be the football coach here. Once they get to know me, know my family, know how important it is to have continuity, my kids going to school somewhere."

    ***takes Utah job Dec. 13***

"First of all, I love it here. But I'm second fiddle. My family is No. 1, and they love it here. As long as we're filling the stadium, as long as we're continuing to grow as a program and as long as I feel these student-athletes are getting the best opportunity to be a top 25 program — which I think it is — I'm going to be the coach here."
Source: Deseret News, October 30, 2004

"I plan on coaching at Utah next year. There's been no contact made. Period. It's almost comical. We're playing the biggest game in the history of the school and we're talking about that. That's nothing to do with nothing. [Shelley Meyer served her employer 2-weeks notice the next day.]"

I don't expect to see the guy take another job in the next few months, or even the next few years. (I think he'd struggle to get one, given that he would have to expose himself as having told a lie about his health.) That doesn't mean I'll be shocked if it happens.

I think it's far likelier that he's never going to exceed what he's already done, so he's going out on top -- or close to it, this year.

But like I said, it strikes me that one's health has to be in pretty serious danger to do something like this, and that if one's health is in that kind of danger, then coaching a bowl game in New Orleans probably isn't going to help.

Nick Saban doesn't understand why you guys won't just take a coach at his word.

And, I'm sorry, but there's a hell of a big difference between ..

"I have a serious medical issue which I don't want to make public. But I am stepping down because of it."

    and

"I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family."

Jeez, one more game, with relatively little at stake, ain't going to kill him. Another stretch of recruiting, spring practice, fall practice, regular season, however.....

And if he wants to pursue an NFL job, he can do that without doing some elaborate medical ruse. In fact, it would help his NFL hopes more not to raise doubts about how he handles stress.

And we're really using Bowling Green and Utah to raise doubts about why Urban Meyer would leave Florida??

why isn't he retiring? He's only "stepping down", which opens a lot of questions. I find his choice of words interesting.

Aren't you gonna feel like a jackass if he dies on the sideline in New Orleans.

No, we're using Bowling Green and Utah to show you can't exactly take what the guy says at face value.

Here's a little gem from the Sentinel:

(UF President Bernie) Machen eluded to Meyer’s current situation in an interview with the Sentinel in February.
“I think what will happen to Urban is he won’t go somewhere else, he’ll just burn out and quit,” Machen said. “He’ll reach the point he can’t do it any longer at the level he demands of himself. Hopefully it’s not for 10 years.”

God, I hope eluded is your typo (no big deal) and not something appearing on a top paper's Web site.
