Use A Condom -- Go To Hell

    BR,

I never suggested we hand condoms out. All I'm saying is that government, while not being responsible for everything, often takes a position on public health for the greater good. The sort of cost/benefit analysis you suggest makes a great deal of sense - and will never, ever be undertaken in matters of human sexuality by this administration.

And I think our fixation on the cost here, and to whom, misses the greater point of the thread. To keep American kids clueless as to the use and effectiveness of condoms in the prevention of unwanted pregnancy and disease is a perfect example of why religious scruple - of whatever stripe or creed - has no place in a developed Western democracy.

Following that logic, why should I pay for anything that doesn't directly go to keeping someone else alive?

Why should I pay for other people's prozac or prosthesis or preventative hysterectomy or anything else?

And Ragu, a "large percentage" of people are opposed to contraception on moral grounds? Really? I haven't seen those numbers.

Thank you, IJAG. I'm late to this thread, and I'm disappointed it took four pages to get that first line.

And your second line ... hell, I giggle anytime I read the word "buttsex." That just sounds funny to me.

There is a reason my health insurance gives me a discount when applying for membership at a healthclub or a gym. No, I don't need to go to the gym to be healthy. I'm sure that I could run up and down the street.

However, providing this option enables me to use bettor equipment and potentially learn other ways of being healthy and getting my body in shape.

When you only tell kids that abstinance is the only way to go, you are just fucking them in the ass.

Oh dear. There is no previously established "safe" word in that scenario.

Pastor, where did I say this? I really would like to know.

Just like Ragu and jgmac mention that the government should support vaccinations and other preventative measures, I say sex ed should be taught in our schools. I'd argue half the problems we have vis-a-vis teen pregnancy are caused by lack of education.

I just don't think I should be ponying up for contraception.

I didn't say that you said that. I was just throwing it out there.

Well, we've been hunting for a "safe word" from this presidency since 2001. Sadly, we continue to be reemed.

By the way, the same people who are leading the fight against the wide availability of birth control are leading the fight against the HPV vaccine that could all but wipe out cervical cancer in this country.

No idea why you are trying to argue something I don't care about. But oK, it isn't a "large percentage." I have no idea what the percentage is. I do know that it is greater than zero, which is effectively the percentage of people who oppose vaccinations -- which was the actual point of my post, not this. I also know that it is a vocal enough percentage that their kind are now controlling the Federal government. So it's obvious to me, at least, that my feelings about the morality (as opposed to immorality) of contraception are not the only views held by people. It's a controversial issue. That was my point. I figured that was kind of self-apparent.

The same people who oppose birth control also oppose vaccinations, as I said above.

Sex, politics and religion. This is the message board trifecta.

    Ding! Ding!

Religion poisons everything as Chris Hitchens would say. It's time to take these fundie bastards to the woodshed. We cannot continue to exist if we are slaves to these ancient manuscripts.
