WSJ went in on it a few mins ago, but it's subscription only.

I thought this made lots of good points, despite trying to making this political with a "leftist media" sneer, because, of course, Federalist. (The New Republic, btw, was one of the first to join the chorus calling b.s.) Gawker media is not "leftist" media as much as just "no standards advocacy" media.

The "leftist sneer" exists because it is left wing (mainstream) media that tries to build political causes around false narratives.

That some left wingers have pointed out the failures of the RS article doesn't change that.

And, the "facts don't matter" isn't by accident, and it isn't new. It's standard operating procedure.

If anything, it suggests even more strongly what most of us already knew - "Trust us, we're the media" doesn't work anymore.

Erdely doesn't seem to realize that.

I should really start reading more right wing media, where political causes are never used to build false narratives.

    Really? This is your rebuttal?

How long did it take for her story to fall apart?

Was the media invested in her story, or in properly questioning her story?

And, whenever some idiot tries to make up a story about getting car jacked by a scary black man, or says their kids were kidnapped by a scary black man, the media (and the cops) are smart enough to pick the story apart in about 5 minutes.

Why can't they do that in the case of Duke, or UVa, or Dorian Johnson?

Reading that piece from The Federalist.com, I'm really glad that I'm not someone so invested in a cause, like the Slate tweeter and the Planned Parenthood tweeter, that I abandon all semblance of critical thinking in situations like this. Their Tweets are embarrassing.

Sacco and Vanzetti, a couple of murders, were turned into heroes by the left in the '20's. 50 years later, dupes like Michael Dukakis were still promoting their cause.

Mumia Abu-Jamal is a cause célèbre like none other on the left.

Why does the left turn murderers into heroes, despite the facts?

Because a lot of innocent people get convicted of murder. Sacco and Venzetti may be among them.

Settle down, let's try to not ruin this thread with more politics, please. Perhaps later we can talk about Benghazi and how good the right wing media was at debunking that narrative that somehow held up to three Congressional investigations.
