The fact that it appears - at quick glance - that most of the victims are prostitutes is partial confirmation of my intuition that rape, including gang rape, is like most crimes with a victim, in that the offender rationalizes to himself that the target deserved it. That it was a morally defensible act. Dostoevsky had it nailed.
