Starting to read like The Big Lebowski. Did Erdely count Jackie's toes?

Aw, hell, there was something that unbelievable in the RS piece about the aftermath, as well, with Drew telling Jackie afterward what a nice time he had. I saw commenters - and I swear I've read every word on this story that's out there at this point - saying, "That's EXACTLY how a rapist would act!!!"

This just goes to show what I've thought for a long time: folks from northern Virginia are fucked up.

Is it just me or has the New York Times been an absolute non-player on this story?

Given what you consider normal, I'll just take this as a compliment.

This whole sordid mess doesn't change the reality that UVa does indeed have (in the words of the WaPo story) "a culture that is indifferent to rape."

It's just too bad that a bogus claim from an obviously troubled young woman provides a "win" of sorts for all the rape deniers on The Grounds.

Any chance of achieving substantive changes to the way UVa addresses sexual assault just sailed out the window.

Yeah, Sabrina Erdely is a real heroic figure.

I don't believe jack shit that was in that piece. I'm on the fence about whether the university is even in Charlottesville.

Legally, it's in Albemarle County, or at least part of it is. So you're right to question that.

Coco McPherson, Rolling Stone's fact-checker, Tweeted the following when the story came out:

So proud of @SabrinaRErdely and @RollingStone and the incredibly brave young women of UVA for coming forward http://rol.st/11Cs0z8

And re-Tweeted this when the story began to unravel:

…I’m appalled that people are turning a story about a public institution sitting on an explosive allegation of gang rape on campus into a conversation about ethics in gang-rape journalism.

I know that the concern frequently expressed by the victim advocacy movement is that, because of this story, because of these ... these ... missed details, people won't trust the victim advocacy movement any more.

    I'll say it:

I don't trust the victim advocacy movement any more. I don't trust a single numerical figure sourced to it, and I don't trust a single unvetted word that comes out of their collective mouths or keyboards.
