From Tawana Brawley to Duke Lax to UVa, it's the search for the Holy Grail, Moby Dick and the end of the Rainbow, the Great White Defendant.

Interesting, drop of 50% since 1997. I wonder if the rise of the internet and free porn has anything to do with that?

So, a "study" that is just as flawed as the "1-in-5" survey? Meaning, entirely based on self-reporting but admitting that the respondents are left to determine on their own what constitutes a "criminal" incident?

Overall, those stats are in line, actually a little higher, than the 1-in-250 number I cited earlier. And, it doesn't change the fact that 18- to 24-year-olds are by far the highest percentage of women raped. But, since a majority are nonstudents, we can let the rich, white frat bros off the hook?

While some people here are so worried about the "extremists" on the victim advocacy side, there are an awful lot of people losing their shit in an attempt to debunk the "1-in-5" stat.

So, let's just take your numbers and say that 1.5 in 250 female college students are raped. As far as I can see, there are about 10 million 18- to 24-year-olds enrolled in colleges in the U.S. That means 60,000 rapes of female college students every year. And, let's not forget that, according to your own link, 80 percent of those still go unreported to police. I'd bet the percentage is about the same for reporting rates to college administrators, but that study didn't bother to look at those.

So, to sum up, rape on college campuses, and more importantly rape of college-aged women, is still a huge problem in this country, no matter what the "Instapundit" has to say.

Sure that post "felt right" to you, MC? At this point it's all about what felt right.

I thought it was all about the rich, white frat bro victims, who have never been identified in public, have all the plausible deniability they'll ever need, and will never see the inside of a court room, let alone a prison cell, because of this one irresponsible reporter.

MC joins JayFarrar on the list of people who have never heard of Glen Reynolds.

All I could think of was this guy:

Who, as fans of the show will know, is something of a sexual predator himself.

If you're going to accuse me of that, at least spell the guy's name right.

And, yes, I know who Glenn Reynolds is. He's even right about some things.

He's still dead wrong about this.

    God Damn it.

You got me there, though I was mostly busting your balls. I was pretty sure you knew who he was, but you seemed to be dismissing him by putting "Instapundit" in quotation marks.

So I guess the SportsJournalists.com consensus seems to be that the frat bros - who we don't know for sure are either rich or white - got what was coming to them or, at the very least, weren't harmed by this?

I suppose that when applying to jobs in a couple years, no one is going to realize that they were a member of Phi Kappa Psi and hold it against them. But this has to be an unpleasant experience for them unlike anything I ever went through in college. I never had bricks thrown through my windown. I never had to move out of my house. I never had angry protesters on my lawn. I never made national news.

Remember, for the better part of three weeks to a month, the majority of Americans believed Jackie's story, hook, line, and sinker.

Even for someone who got the big Lego set at Christmas when he was a kid, this seems like an experience that could cause some bit of lasting trauma, potentially.

I think it would be funny if most of the frat bros in that house voted blue, because some folks here think she went after rich, white (Republican) frat bros to serve her purpose.

I don't think that's exactly the reason she went after Virginia. The school's reputation, from what I understand, is as Douchebag, Popped Collar University. Even taking politics and geography out of it, it's a school that I could see Erdely thinking just feels like a rape haven, because of the assholes who supposedly go there. Early in the story, for example, she notes how the place is crawling with an overwhelming majority of blondes with tan, toned bodies.
