Everything about it bothers me, as it's a whole cloth fabrication. But the detail that jumped out to me on a second read was "Drew" later telling her, "I had a really nice time."

Tweet string makes clear that the source of the doubts is the writer's interview in which she says she didn't interview the men because she couldn't find them.

Sean Woods, who edited the Rolling Stone story, said in an interview that Erdely did not talk to the alleged assailants. “We did not talk to them. We could not reach them,” he said in an interview.

I have a hard time believing all these preppies are living off the grid now.

Depends on what they mean by glass table. A wooden frame with a glass panel insert or do they mean a sheet of glass on legs.

Again, as I noted some pages back, this girl's story is one that sounds remarkably familiar to another Ive heard that was at land grant state school.

Erdely declined to say whether she knows the names of the alleged perpetrators, including “Drew.”

“I can’t answer that,” she said. “This was a topic that made Jackie extremely uncomfortable.”

Then that one's probably also a lie.

Which kinda begs the question ...

Nope. I wasn't there but I know the fraternity chapter in question paid a large sum of money to the girl as a settlement of sorts.

The stammering in that Post story is definitely what it feels like when your story starts falling apart.

New Republic getting skeptical too. Reason flat out calling it a hoax.

As I said further up in this thread, even if the details at the beginning are very much embellished, and the rest of it is entirely true -- and that's what my gut tells me happened -- it allows people to knock down the whole thing, dismiss it, and Rolling Stone in attempt to get writerly will have done UVA women a real disservice by weaponizing every meathead critic of those trying to curtail rape culture.

Jezebel losing their shit, of course. Because, you know, even questioning the journalism here means you hate women. What?

"This piece was carefully fact-checked. We found Jackie credible." -- Rolling Stone editor Sean Woods

    Well then.

My guess is that within 48 hours, we hear from Jackie that she was so traumatized that she has misremembered certain details. And Erdely will explain that some minor details were changed to protect Jsckie. Or something.

This is about to blow up. Big.

I'd be surprised if she didn't "misremember" details after being gang-raped, given the horror of the moment. Doubt Jackie had a pen and a pad to take notes about it.

Regardless, it's the least shocking thing ever to suggest that Rape U has an enormous cultural problem with entitled, rich douchebags taking advantage of women -- and it's not just a fraternity issue, either.

Just sad that it took a (perhaps significantly flawed) magazine article to spur the university's "leadership" to do what it should've done decades ago.
