Va Tech Shooter sends "images, letter" to NBC

Hey Knute, compelling to whom? Perhaps to future Columbine-like killers. After all, this insane kid attributed Columbine's killers in his video. No doubt, Va. Tech is gonna pop up in future videos. And now that NBC has set a precedent - yes, we'll show your shit to the nation - this WILL happen again in the next few years.

We only needed to see maybe 1 or 2 pics of the kid. Now we got fucks like Chris Matthews trying to characterize him and reaching hard for connections between what he did and violent movies. He even tried to get NBC's president to admit as such. Sick journalism NBC pulled, IMO.

These comparisons to "Oldman" are pissing me off, too. The pose isn't even similar to the one on in Oldman.

If the dude had sent the stuff to Fox News, not only would they run it, they'd probably superimpose O'Reilly tackling the guy.

LMAO, Ace. Chris Matthews was enough.

I personally applaud the VA State Police decision to not release 911 tapes from Monday.
No need to hear the screams, etc.
Something bad happened. We know that.
The tapes will not confirm or clarify, only exploit.

No, What I want you all to do is run your news for the next week between 8 pm (7 Central) and 11 pm and repeat the same utterances over and over and over again. And put a crawl on the bottom telling us the people are dead. But please do it, repeatedly and daily, at Prime Advertising Time. So I know it is important. And the Journalistic integrity and the people's right to know is paramount in all your minds. Most people work during the day and don't see Matt Lauer's self important cross examination of security guards, but everyone's home for American Idol.

Tell us what you found out on our behalf. tell us the stories of the heroes and the victims, the 1st responders, show us the memorial services. BUT NOT the self serving statements of a mass murderer. And his home movies.

I got this second hand yesterday, I was told someone on FNC said that if NBC got a copy, surely theirs was coming, too.
    Anyone else hear that?

Eventually, a media outlet will get those through FOI. Much was learned about the ineffectiveness of NYC's emergency system and the WTC's evacuation system when the NYT got the 911 tapes from 9/11. And considering the cluster that was Va. Tech's response, there might be something to glean, maybe not.

Yeah. Perfectly normal display of egotism and false assumptions.

Following your logic, why show the recording of the gunshots? CNN actually split the screen and showed a counter, so folks at home could keep tally. Objection?

You're too smart to make the beheadings comparison...we also don't air bodies falling out of buildings and smashing to the ground. There's a big difference between a picture of someone holding a gun, and a picture of the gun blowing someone's head away.

And to your second point, any self-aggrandizing psychopaths who might go this far already have countless role models to emulate.

The middle school one of my kids goes to has been locked down twice in the last month due to threats. That was before all of this. If anyone sees anything getting the reaction of local school officials around the country to NBC putting this on the air, please post a link. It would be a point of view from those directly impacted by this decision.

I'm not a journalist and some around here already know that. I used to work in the media, but never as a journalist. I had a business reason for finding this place back in the Sportspages days.

I heard it first hand. I mean, I heard the guy on Fox say it. I don't think much of it, but it wouldn't surprise me if ABC and CBS got them, but not necessarily Fox, CNN, etc.
