Ben, I'll go one step further & say that the real tragedy was the demise of Coast Casinos & their being "swallowed" by Boyd. I do ok w/ Boyd, but REALLY miss the Michael Gaughan days of Coast. The Orleans was fabulous, used to love the shuttle from the Barbary to the Orleans. I gave them a ton of play....now it's just where Boyd has shuffled their old Stardust crowd.

MG did make a bundle & we often stay at his remaining property (South Point...used to be the South Coast). It's nice, but a bit too far off the beaten path to stay there every trip.

Ellis Island was the best advice I got last year from a thread like this. Meal was delicious. If you play for an hour at a table at Ellis, you also get a free meal. Actually a free meal for every hour you play.

Also, speaking of ridiculous deals, Harrah's has a 24-hour buffett for $34.99 plus tax (no alcohol included). Any of the Harrah's buffets for 24 hours for one price. So if you do it right, you can get two dinners, a lunch and breakfast and I suppose unlimited snack trips to the following buffets:

Planet Hollywood, Caesars, Rio, Harrah's, Paris, Imperial Palace and Bally's.

I know dinner at Spice Market and Ceasar's is like $25. I plan to hit Spice Market annyway so I am totally doing this. Spice Market for Dinner, Paris for breakfast, someplace for lunch and Caesar's for dinner. Such a great deal.

Oh also, coupondiscounts.com or discountcoupons.com has $5 off coupons for Spice Market, valid for any meal. Also has 2 for 1 drinks at Koi Lounge at Planet Hollywood.

Another sweet deal I found was the happy hour specials at the Palm restaurant in the forum shops. $3.50 for calimari, kobe beef sliders and similar dishes in the afternoon and again after the dinner rush, M-F.

Lots of cool discounts can be found through the google.

It is the Victoria room but why you would eat the steak and eggs there is beyond me. When I was at Bally's last year they had the $4.99 steak and eggs meal. But Bill's did have some awesome beer specials - not as good as $1 Michelob, Mich light and Mich Ultra bottles at Casino Royale. Such a dump, but a good deal anywhere.

    The Barbary was a favorite.
In a related note, I knocked over three full drinks with one drunken gesture at a Gold Coast blackjack table two nights after getting knocked out of the 2008 WSOP.
I walked out of the Gold Coast feeling shame and self-loathing, which is exaclty the way a person should leave a casino like the Gold Coast.

Good buffet, though. Coast has mastered the knack of putting up quality, reasonably-priced buffets, out there.

You can hammer the Palm mercilessly via some of their coupon deals.
Good VP pay schedules, as well, if you're into that jazz.

I'll second this. If you're playing at the IP at 4 a.m., expect to find some clueless players who hit on 14 when the dealer is showing a 6, etc., etc.

That happened to me last year. Bill's too. Don't ask me why I was playing at 4 am.

Also, someone was just talking about Barbary Coast... I believe that place closed.

Harrah's renamed the Barbary Bill's when they took it over . . . to everyone's regret.

Had breakfast at the Gold Coast once and ordered "seasonal fruit" off the menu, they brought a half-watermelon that barely fit on the table. My wife and I could have sat there all day and not finished it.

I'd much rather stay at the Orleans than the Gold Coast, but the GC is a useful safety valve when
other options aren't available, and they maintain the oldtime Vegas attitude re not raping retail
customers on food. The benefits of that policy are so obvious, it's amazing some benighted
chains continue to drive to make restaurants profit centers, in and of themselves.
